Be a part of the annual Covington Holiday Home Decorating Contest! The contest, which is sponsored by the Village of Covington along with the Covington Chamber of Commerce, encourages community pride by decorating in the spirit of the holiday. Residents who have gone above and beyond in decorating their residence in an exceptional creative approach will be recognized for their hard work during the Village Council meeting on Monday, December 21st.
The contest is open to all residents within the Village of Covington who complete an entry form by December 11th at 4:00 pm.
Entry Application Deadline: December 11th at 4:00 pm.
Judging Period: December 16th through December 18th.
Winners Announced: Monday, December 21st at Village Council Meeting
| VIEW AND PRINT DECORATING CONTEST ENTRY FORM | Contest entry forms are also available from any village retailer and at the Village Hall. Entry is FREE; no cost or fees apply. Entry forms may be dropped off in person at the Government Center, placed in the drop box, or mailed to the Government Center (1 S. High Street).
Judging will be based on the following criteria:
- Creativity (originality, unique design and/or use of storyline or theme)
- Lights and Decorations (display and placement)
- Special Effects (sound effects, animation, etc.)
- Overall Appearance (effort & attractiveness)
Judging of all entries will take place during the evenings of December 16th through 18th.
Winning entries will be announced at the village council meeting on Monday, December 21st.
Five prizes will be awarded:
- First Place – $250 cash prize and yard sign
- Second Place – $200.00 cash prize and yard sign
- Third Place – $150 cash prize and yard sign
- Fourth Place – $100 cash prize and yard sign
- Fifth Place – $50 cash prize and yard sign
RULES & INSTRUCTIONS:

- Participation is open to all residents within the Village of Covington.
- Entry is free; no cost or fees apply.
- Employees of the Village of Covington as well as Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors are not eligible to participate.
- Entry Applications must be received no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, December 6th.
- Judging will be based on “curb appeal” as viewed from the street only. Therefore, only those decorations located on the street side of the property will be judged. Corner lots will be judged from both streets. Judges will not enter the property to view back or side yards.
- Participants agree to have one or more photos of their decorated residence exterior posted on the Village Website and/or published in the Village’s newsletter and/or local newspaper.
- Judging criteria will include (1) Creativity, (2) Lights & Decorations, (3) Special Effects, and (4) Overall Appearance.
- Judging will be take place from dusk until 9:00 pm on the evenings of December 11th through December 13th. Participants should ensure that all lights, animations and decorations are in place and activated during the judging times.
- An Entry Number Card will be placed by the Village in the yard of each participant in a conspicuous place where it can be seen by the judges from the street.
- Five prizes will be awarded: one 1st Place Prize of $250; one 2nd Place Prize of $200; one 3rd Place Prize of $150; one 4th Place Prize of $100; and one 5th Place Prize of $50. All winners will have a yard sign placed in their yard.
- Winners will be announced at the Village Council Meeting on Monday, December 6th. Winners will be notified in advance and asked to be present at the meeting (not required) to receive their award.
- Participants are requested to keep their house decorated through January 1st so that the community may view and enjoy the decorations.
- Judges decisions are final.
