The Village of Covington completed the first phase of the High Street Project earlier this year, which included replacement of utilities within the roadway. As many people are aware, this project was only the setup for the larger project that was coming in 2022. Some updates on the High Street Project 2.0 scheduled for 2022!
What is it?
The Ohio Department of Transportation is improving State Route 48 (High Street) from Dodds Street to US36. The roadway will be reconstructed and widened by one (1) foot on each side (two (2) feet total is being added to the right-of-way) to allow more room for parking and traffic on the roadway. Additionally, sidewalks and curb ramps are being replaced to improve pedestrian traffic along the roadway.
This project requires that some property owners along High Street will have easements, temporary easements, or other land that will be purchased to be put in the public right-of-way.
More information is available here!
When is this happening?
The planning, funding, and setup work for the project have already begun. In the coming weeks you will see changes to High Street related to the project! Some of those changes include:
- Removal of trees in front of the Government Center to allow the widening of the roadway
- Movement of utility poles along High Street
- Utility work related to placement of new poles along High Street
The majority of the road, sidewalk, and other work will be bid out in the Spring of 2022 and completed by the late Fall of 2022. Once this project is bid out, it will be an ODOT project, but the Village will keep everyone updated as it progresses.
